Saratoga Triathlon Club
STC Summer 2020 Virtual Duathlon/Triathlon Challenge!
While it's safe to say that nobody's 2020 triathlon season went according to plan, many members of the Saratoga Triathlon Club still found ways to stay both healthy, active and creative by participating in STC's Summer 2020 Virtual Duathlon/Triathlon Challenge!
The rules for the Challenge were simple: complete two, three or more activities back-to-back, with no restrictions on types of activities. Participants were encouraged to post their results on the Saratoga Tri Club Facebook page.
Turnout was strong and enthusiastic, and definitely highlighted the athletic endeavors of our members -- and creative ones as well! In fact, most participants did not follow a traditional swim/bike/run, in activity or order. Many congrats to everyone who participated:
Michelle Ching: Swim/Bike/Fitness Class/Bike
Jeremy Davis: Tupper Lake Triad (hike)
Lindsay Eastman: Half-Ironman
Theresa Felton: Swim/Bike Combo 5x in a row
Jason Hare: Swim/Unicycle/Run
Lori Langdon: Swim/Run/Swim
Dan Maloney: Run/Bike/Swim
Kathy Pfeiffer: Swim/Bike
Suzette Sala: Bike/Hike/Hike
Kim Thompson: Bike/Swim/Run
Joanne VanHorne: Run/Bike/Swim
Christine Walley: Swim/Stand-Up Paddleboard/Hike
While virtual events are fun, we look forward to hopefully seeing each other in-person for a great 2021 season!
STC Message Regarding CoVID-19
Hi everybody - we all hope that you are doing ok during this pandemic. While there are a lot of unknowns with respect to training, races, and events for this year, we want to keep you in the loop as to where things stand now and what we know and don't know about what will happen this summer.
The Board has voted to cancel the rest of the swim season at Moreau Lake. This is obviously not the summer that any of us wanted. Personally, the swims are one of the highlights of the summer and a great chance to see everybody in the club.
As it stands, there are restrictions at Moreau Lake State Park for permits not to exceed 25 people. Our swims average 60-110 people, and because of uncertainties with Covid, the state park does not have a date when the number would be lifted closer to 50. In addition, we want to make sure that everybody is safe, from our volunteers, swimmers, and the lifeguards. Our season is now a bit more than half over, and most everybody's events have been cancelled.
Moreau has been and is a wonderful partner with our Club. We were in frequent communication with them and they want us to swim there as well. We are very hopeful that next year, things can return to a better normal and we can put this year behind us.
In the meantime, note that you can still swim at Moreau on your own, we just can't do it formally as a group. If you choose to do this, know that this is at your own risk, and please use the buddy system and don't swim alone. Stay away from the buoys marking the guarded swim area and be aware of other non-motorized boats. If you have a swim buoy, use that for greater visibility.
If you became a member this year, know that your membership will be extended through April 30, 2022 so that you will not need to pay next year. Otherwise, all memberships from last year were extended through the end of April 20, 2021. If you wish to join now, the membership is good through April 30, 2022. You can join at https://www.saratogatriclub.com/join-stc
Capital District Triathlon Club is conducting swims at Crystal Lake in Averill Park. Details can be found here: http://www.cdtriclub.org/
The dates and times of club meetings are announced via e-mail to the club membership. Our next meeting will be on line on August 25, 2020.
Summer meeting times are immediately following our swims on Thursdays.
2020 Swim Season [Cancelled]
Our open water swim series is normally on Thursday nights between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
All swims are at Moreau State Park on Thursday evenings at 6:00 pm sharp.
Snail Mail: Saratoga Triathlon Club, PO Box 4451, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866
We are looking for folks who can volunteer for some of the duties on Thursday nights. Volunteering is a wonderful chance to get to know your fellow club members. Working the check-ins and check-outs allows you to put faces with names. And I guarantee you will feel wonderful about doing it. If you had a lousy day at work, volunteering at a Thursday night swim will totally change the karma of your day. Saratoga Tri-Club Members are without doubt THE friendliest group you are ever going to meet while wearing a wetsuit and standing around on a beach. Please touch base with Jeremy, Jason, Joanne, Meg, Carl, Jodi, Chris or Kristen if you would like to volunteer.
Every time you volunteer your name will be entered into an End-Of-Season Raffle for cool prizes.
Subscribe to our mailing list! This is the best means of keeping in touch with the club.
